Looking at the moderator list, and the fact that Urban has left long ago tells me this place is dying, and is no longer much of a place for discovering music or talking about it. Let me clarify this, it's not because Urban left, but him leaving, yet remaining a mod (he's not the only one) is evidence of a place way past it's glory days, in it's last phase of life. There is no real future here unfortunately, but I'm not trying to knock this place at all. I've had great memories here, made great friendships that span years and years that run way deeper than this place.

This isn't my last post or anything, I'm just making a post on how I feel about this place.

I think you're completely wrong there. The old friendships, rivalries, slagging off and exchange of death threats continue. Metal Month III is going well, the new Torture Chamber thread is getting good exposure and everyone's enjoying themselves there, and Love or Hate? is back, to say nothing of Batty's hilarious latest updates in his journal, the discussion going on in the Megadeth/Metallica thread, the glam metal battle in Metal Survivor, slagging off Mariah Carey and many other threads.

I see no difference now than I did six months ago. Yes we miss Urban but the place is not going to fall apart without him. If you feel this place is dying, maybe you should try contributing and getting involved more. Not getting at you, but you hardly ever post, so to make a comment like that in your position comes across to me as a little disingenuous.

Your roast thread sucks.

And your roast thread of course. See? Lots happening. Some of it good. ;)

I would agree that the site isn't quite as lively as when I first joined, and that more quality members have left than been replaced, but forums in general are suffering due to social media like Facebook and Twitter.

Also, from what I've read of threads from before my time, a significant percentage of them were boring, with most posts being one or two sentence entries that basically amounted to "I like this band as well. *Insert song* is my favorite." There might have been a golden age of Music Banter, but even that was years before I came here, and was likely followed by an increase in junk members who contributed little (as I alluded to above).

Whether or not the forum is past its prime, I enjoy the atmosphere of the current membership. We may not be contributing as much to the original intent of the forum as many would like, but I prefer my forums to be as much social gatherings as places for on-topic discussions. Other sites I've been to which were more on-topic have generally been pretty lame, with little in the way of comeradery or fun, so I'd probably be more interested in remaining a member of the current Music Banter than I would one which was more serious-minded, and I think most people are of like mind as exhibited by the discussions in Tore's rule change thread. Maybe he had a point, but by and large we like what we have here, so I'm not particularly interested in any drastic changes to the forum.

I think part of your (Sequoioideae) problem with the site might be more to do with your disinterest in more light-hearted kinship with your fellow members, or possibly being intimidated by what might be seen as a "clique" of members with their own in-jokes and whatnot. I understand that you're pretty introverted, but most of us are, so if you still have any interest in being a member of this site then it might be a good idea to "get in the thick of things": trade jabs, enjoy our company, and just have more fun in general.

Music Banter is what it is, and we like our friendly atmosphere, so join the party!

I actually agree with all of this.

Saying an internet music forum is dying is like complaining that there are no more video stores to rent VHS tapes anymore. No sh*t it's dying. Nobody really goes on forums anymore. I don't know a single person in my life that goes on a forum. However, we're here. There is still content being churned out. Most of the people that have complained, and there has been numerous, are always people who start zero threads, write in zero journals, and really only post once a week or so. The people who do stay active here don't seem to be complaining too much. As long as this place still gets advertising which funds the price of bandwidth and whatnot, it'll be here.

So either enjoy what we have, when we have it, or don't. We ain't dead til the servers die. They ain't dying anytime soon. So listen to an album, write about it if you want, and have fun. I'm still having fun here. A lot of people are.

Or just go to Reddit or something. I don't care.

*ahem* Music Banter definitely hit rock bottom with that garbage thread, especially at that point where you stop roasting members with light heart quips and start making vulgar jokes about other members' moms.

I agree with what you have to say about MB. Those are your sentiments so I don't know how or why other people think it's wrong to say that.

Youre just mad because every thread I make ends up being interesting, and every time you make a thread, you have to cut yourself in order to get through the pain of how boring and useless your life has become.
