Problem with site, not sure where to post this

For the last few days every time I try to connect to MB I get:

This webpage is not available

ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT

I tried a few different browsers and they all say the same thing as well. This is the only site I'm having problems with, and I thought it was down for everyone or something. Today I tried a web proxy and seeing as I'm posting here I can get it to load through it. Not very convenient, though.

Anyone know how to fix this?

YorkeDaddy 06-01-2015 09:30 PM

That happened to me for about two full days last week, it was a real pain.

And then out of nowhere it fixed itself and now I've been able to load up MB as normal for several days straight.

I don't get it.

Janszoon 06-02-2015 04:05 AM

Did you try clearing your cache?

I did. I flushed dns, cleared cache, messed around with firewall and restarted many times. None of that worked. I already tried resetting the router before, but I just did it again and now I'm oddly able to get on here without the use of a web proxy. It got worse and worse and fewer pages were loading randomly all around the web and everything was timing out, but for some reason now it's so fast that everything instantly loads faster than ever before. It's crazy.

I'm not gonna question the logic of all this so long as it keeps working. Hopefully I won't run into the problem again.

DwnWthVwls 06-02-2015 07:50 AM

It's randomly happened to me before, but it fixed itself without doing any diagnosing. Next time it happens try a different web browser.

RoxyRollah 06-02-2015 07:51 AM

I get this problem too. Alot.

Frownland 06-02-2015 10:57 AM

I've had this problem on my work computer this week for the first time. I tried it on my phone as well and it wasn't working so I thought that the site was down. But later on I tried it using LTE and it worked just fine. Maybe it's a problem with the Internet connection? That's the only time I've experienced it.

fiddler 06-02-2015 05:13 PM

I'm having an issue where even though I've "read" the last post in a thread (via the "view last post" link) sometimes they still show back up in the "New Posts" search even though the thread has not been updated. Tried clearing the cache & cookies already.

anticipation 06-02-2015 05:38 PM

I keep on having this problem and I just don't know what to do about it. I've unplugged my router, unplugged my computer, unplugged my modem, flipped every breaker in my house, called Tore to see how he thinks I should handle it, still just getting the same error message over and over. It's unbelievable, I'm getting to the point where my frustration is taking over my soul, which at one point was like a lovely flower but is now a shit-covered fartbox.

I think we need new moderators.

The ones we have now aren't doing their job and I am being victimized by this coding error and it's so frustrating that I don't know what to do.

Trollheart 06-02-2015 05:40 PM

Don't worry: tore's new system will ensure this never happens again. He guarantees it. :)

It's probably because of polls.

I thought that too, but then it happens with threads that don't have a poll attached.

I'm assuming you're hitting "new posts" again? If so, then I dunno what to tell you.

Yup. And when it's listed I generally hit the little arrow beside whoever posted the last update. For whatever reason it doesn't recognize that I've "read" the post. It will get rid of it if I "mark forums read".

I'm surprised so many people are experiencing the same issue. I don't think it was a MB issue for me though since it started happening to me with more and more sites. I was lucky enough for the router to fix it after a few days.

This is happening to me again out of nowhere except it's doing it on sites other than this. Driving me insane. Resetting the router seems to only put it off for a little while.

Internet Problem - Error 118 (net::ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT) - Webologist

or try using the program found near the bottom of this page in the novice user section: http://winwiki.org/error-118-neterr_...ion-timed-out/

RoxyRollah 06-24-2015 07:23 PM

Anybody else get necro threads that bump themselves show up in new posts?

Goofle 06-24-2015 07:42 PM

Threads with a poll get bumped when there's a new vote.

Dead

Cuthbert 06-25-2015 08:41 AM

Just gonna post this here.

The vast majority of the time I browse this website I am on my phone and can never view YouTube videos. It's not a problem with the phone its the forum.

If you just embed videos by pasting the URL, you get the link under the video as well as the video embedded into the site.

Most of the time when videos are embedded though it's just the video and impossible to watch.

Can't this be sorted? It is a fuciing pain.

Yeah, don't try to watch videos on your phone. Easy.

Don't browse the site on your phone then?

It doesn't matter what I choose to browse the site on or what i have with me at the time, it is a problem with viewing the website and if possible I don't see why the people running the site should not see if its fixable to help the site become a more enjoyable experience for contributing members.

Oh look, someone else is blaming the owners of the site for things that don't matter.

Shocker.

You are just being an arse now.

It does matter for me when on here. Why should people not post any issues they are having with accessing MB? That's all I've done. About blaming the owners, it might not even be possible to fix. If it isn't its no big deal.

I was only joking. I was just implying that evidently every time an issue comes up, the owners tend to look past it. We're all just $$ to them.

If the problem only exists on your device, then it has nothing to do with the site source code, but if the same problem can be duplicated on other phones, then it's the 'ported' or mobile version of the sites source code, which may not even exist. In this instance the website is stripped down for mobile viewing, and that may just be a part of it.

Have you tried viewing embedded YT vids from a different mobile device?

Cheers. Yeah a couple. It's not just my phone, was doing it on my old one and this was brand new about 2 months ago. Definitely not my phone.

What I mean with embedding is for example:

This won't play and I have no way of viewing it unless I quote the post, copy and paste the text and then type http://youtube.com/watch=v? and paste it after that into my browser. That is hassle though.

This however works:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y3BxHUoF2fw

When I post videos, I just post the full url, and not the video ID thingy into Youtube tags, and you get the url embedded under it so even though the video won't play I can click the url and it will open in the Youtube app.

Does this make sense?

Anyway, was wondering if it was possible to have that same url thingy when you embed videos like in the first example.

Plankton 06-25-2015 10:03 AM

I get the same thing on my phone (just checked it). It's a code translation issue when the site is called up from a mobile device. Not sure if the owners want to pony up the ducketts for porting it over to a mobile version, so you may be out of luck.

Plankton 06-25-2015 11:55 AM

After some digging, it looks like this has been a problem for a while.

Has anyone else been getting booted off the forum today? It's happened a few times where the page won't load at all for an hour or two. It's not my internet, because this is the only site that does it.

grindy 08-13-2015 06:06 AM

Recently threads I've already read hours or days ago are being displayed in the New Posts section.
What's up with that?

RoxyRollah 08-13-2015 06:27 AM

It's prolly the poll.

Nice sleuthing.

RoxyRollah 08-13-2015 06:58 AM

Psst...I queried it myself.
