A couple track ideas in the works...

These are two things that aren't finished. In fact, they're both more or less just 4 chord progressions with very simple melodies. I figure I could make them both into individual tracks, and they could both be great pieces of music.

The first one is going to be called With Doves, and it was inspired by a song I heard by The Album Leaf. What do you think of the overall feel? How do you interpret the music? Is there enough going on for now to keep it interesting? By the way, it is going to go silent just after the minute mark because that's where I'm up to so far. There is more there, but I muted it because it was unfinished. The guitar is a bit rough and I'll be posting a new take in a minute or two. Anyways....

Edit - I made a slightly more involving version, and have it through the second melodic theme now. Do you like it more involving, or did you prefer it more ambient? I'm also unsure of whether or not I like all of the layers of the lead melody. The whole thing is still a work in progress I guess, but anyways...

The second track is just a simple idea I made a while ago after being introduced to M83. I wanted to make a track like their outros, that was really simple, but carried for a really long time. As of now the whole progression just repeats twice and that's the end of it. It's going to be much longer before it's finished. Anyways, what do you think? Do you like it? Is it too similar to the other track? Do you like the simplicity of the harmony and melody? I'd love any thoughts you may have, good or bad.

Anyways, I hope you enjoy, and thank you in advance for listening.

Edit - Apparently putfile doesn't want to take the second file, so you'll have to use the yousendit link.

I will check this out later and give you my opinion.

Good thing because putfile never seems to work for me on the listening end. :)

Anyway, I like the direction you're going with both tracks, though both are very short and I'd like to hear longer, completed songs. One thing you might try is seeing if you can push even further in the slow and atmospheric direction. I think that could sound pretty interesting.

That is a good idea and something I've thought about. In fact I've had thoughts of making a whole atmospheric record, so I will be trying that at some point. I think what I may do for now is make a few of the tracks even more atmospheric and ambient, while having a few being a tad more involving, so they're not quite as, background I suppose.

By the way, thanks for listening, I appreciate your thoughts. I will definitely be posting more completed versions as I go. In fact, I have the whole idea for a concept album planned out, I just have to finish the tracks all up, and come up with a couple more track demos.

I posted an updated version of the first track up in the original post. I made it a tad more involving, but I may end up leaving it a little emptier, I'm undecided as of now. I'd love to hear any thoughts anyone has though.

While I love tracks such as these, a whole album may be a bit too much, unless you made it a complete piece or introduced some drum tracks maybe?

Well the whole album wouldn't completely lack rhythm. In fact, I plan on adding percussion to both of these tracks. The second one is more or less going to be a post-rock track by the end, though the first one will probably stay pretty soft the whole time. I plan on making guitar based instrumentals too, kind of like Marooned or something along those lines. I will probably only have one completely ambient track on the album, and it will only be a couple minutes.

Of course, as will anyone who wants one. I'm just going to go around the city and basically give them out at appropriate times. Thank you very much for your comments though, I'm glad you like it so far.
