I just bought this record today. I'm pretty new to free jazz but... holy God... this record is amazing. There are not words to describe the sounds that are recorded on this album. The inside cover has this definition: machine gun- automatic gun for fast, continuous firing. This is a pretty perfect description of this record. Fast continuous firing of Bari and Tenor Sax, Piano, Bass and Drums. There are also some other inexplicable noises that tease the ears throughout. Most people will hate this music. In fact, it is a lot more abrasive than almost all metal I've heard... I'm sure this could be up for debate. This is supposedly the "classic" European Free-Jazz record. All lovers of fun, loud noises and Avant Jazz (I suppose these are the same thing) need to own this record.

We should make an all time top 50 jazz records list

I'd be interested. It's pretty hard to dive into a genre as big and diverse as jazz.

I’ll do it

I’m not going to do a numbered top 50 but I’ll make a 50 essential jazz records list

it’s hard from the get go because it predates the LP
