Parson Sound/International Harvester/Harvester

Have you guys ever checked out this band? It's a Swedish experimental band/Situationist group from the late 1960s, kinda doing the whole krautrock thing several years early. They started off in 1967 as "Parson Sound", based on a combination of Terry Riley and the Rolling Stones. Their sound is pretty loud and droned-out, with minimalist free form jams that stretch on for what seems like forever. In '68 they changed their name to "International Harvester", which I find to be their best incarnation. The sound isn't as wild as Parson Sound, and their free form jams are cut with folk sounds, nature noises, and recordings of protests. The folkier sounds are indulged more in the next phase of the group in '69, "Harvester", yet there is still plenty of free form pre-noise rock. In 1970, they changed their name again to "Trad, Gras Och Stenar" (Tree, Grass, and Stones), their most known form. Not the same band, but still pretty damn good!

Check them out, especially if you're fond of the Amon Duul II style of krautrock!

These guys are great! I've seen them twice in recent years in Seattle as Trad Gras Och Stenar. Definitely excellent. So slow, and graceful, and big and loud! Old dudes rock...

huh ... looks like they just released an album ... I'm kind of excited about that
