Dazzling Killmen
This is some avant garde jazz hardcore that I never really got into but I should have. I'm liking them enough that I feel that they deserve a thread. Anyone wanna talk about some old Skin Graft stuff?

No replies to this? You bad people.
Dazzling Killmen are fucking insanely good, especially Face of Collapse. Wouldn't say they're jazzcore, they're more a math rock/post hardcore band influenced by the jazz arrangements of guys like Sun Ra... but I'm just being a genre Nazi really. |
eh, before I clicked I got all psyched about this. Honestly, by stanards of this type of music... it's average.
Then again, that's just from this video. I think it's the dull percussion. Frankly, it's hard to do a Last Exit or Naked City type thing without a Ronald Shannon Jackson or Joey Baron. Feels kind of PG in comparison. |

As for the genre - I really can't remember why I called this 'avant garde jazz hardcore'. Really I always just lumped them in with noise rock put out by Skin Graft in the early 90s. Quote:

I'll admit I like it much better than 'Painkiller' which I feel, apart from some playful psuedojapanese improvised fake arguments between Zorn and Tatsuya Yoshida is pretty tedious.

Dazzling Killmen are great from what I have heard. I mentioned them in the best math rock thread the other day, "Face of Collapse" is an album everybody should listen to.
I have not listened to a lot of the labels discography, but from what I have I have enjoyed. Dazzling Killmen, Shorty, U.S. Maple, Colassamite and Melt-Banana have released some great stuff on the label. |
favorite by them thus far. |
