Electronic Experimental
 

Who listens to experimental electronic bands? My favorite is probably shpongle, because their sound engineering is amazing and the way they include elements of all different styles of music from everywhere in the world is just amazing. Their 20 minute song "...And the Day Turned to Night" is an amazing experimental piece trying to recreate an eclipse. Another good experimental electronic band is Infected Mushroom (a little less so, but the fact that they include distorted guitars, singing, melody and structure into psytrance is definitely a first).

Heres a couple of electronic bands i like, not all of them a straite electronic bands but youl get what im talking about :)

I like Shpongle and to an extent IM as well (Heavyweight album only for me, plz), but to call it experimental electronic would be a misnomer IMO, or at least on over-generalization. The term bandied about for Shpongle is Psytrance, which is the red-headed stepchild of Trance and Psychedelic music. I'm not making it up, either. Sounds silly, but it's widely accepted so /shrug. You're not flat out wrong in calling it experimental or electronic though.

I dig it. I also recommend other Simon Posford projects (he's 1/2 of Shpongle) such as Celtic Cross and Hallucinogen. Easily Embarrassed is a bea-u-tiful ambient electronic group. You may also enjoy Androcell. Solar Fields. Let me know. :D

Im just getting into Shpongle because they are playing at Coachella so I was checkin em out. I was SO IMPRESSED with what is on Youtube for them- blown away- love it. I bought the only CD in stock at the local store: Ineffable Mysteries from Spongleland... and its not quite as intense as what I saw on Youtube. Some of it is, but its almost not "psychedlic" nor "trance" enough... at one point I even thought "easy listening" but only for a very brief moment. Its still good. I didn't really know what I was looking for. I just needed to own their music.

White Noise is pretty good. Their debut album is just great. I guess Can and Faust could be considered a little "electronic" too.

Terry Riley, Stockhausen, **** Buttons & Basinski are choice picks of mine.

I didn't even think of mentioning Stockhausen. Good choice.

About Shpongle again... I listened to it all day at work for two days straight and I've changed my mind about the album. Its great. The problem now is that I don't want to do anything else... I just want to wear the headphones and stare out the window and imagine all the cubicle walls disconnecting and falling over all at once. Or crawling under my cube and pulling in my chair... no one would even know. I might even take a bag of M&M's with me. Shpongle. I can't wait for Coachella.

Ha, I thought he'd be the first choice of everyone. Even if you can't dig the man's work in terms of personal enjoyment, his music helps you understand the context of electronic music very well.
