Viv Akauldren

Active in the 80s, Viv Akauldren were, what can best be described as, an electronic-psychedelic oddity from Detroit. They employed a wildly eclectic plethora of musical influences into their music; ranging from the likes of Gong and Hawkwind all the way through to ambient/minimalist soundscapes, with world music a ubiquitous element in their output.

The albums Witness, I'll Call You Sometime and Vivian's Fountain are all excellent - as is Keir McDonald's solo project, Medusa Cyclone.

Really interesting stuff. I quite liked "Magic City", perhaps a tad monotonous but I'm sure if I was listening to it louder I'd be more into it (pretty late & I'm tired & whatnot). I'll have to get an album of theirs in the near-future.

I'll be sure to check it out.

You especially won't be disappointed. If you are, you can suggest the worst album imagineable and I will sit through the whole thing ;)

Sounds good to me.

Alright, I thought the album was just okay. I was expecting some more experimentation, but I didn't hear too much of it. Overall, though, it was good for a psychedelic/garage rock album. I heard elements of punk, noise, psychedelic rock, garage rock, and some spoken word. Is there anything else by them with a more experimental feel to it?

By the way, I thought their cover of MC5's "Looking at You" was fantastic.

Tryi I'll Call You Sometime, it's their first album and probably their most experimental.
