Einstürzende Neubauten - Kollaps (1981) [SAA Album Club discussion thread]

Einstürzende Neubauten - Kollaps (1981)

Einstürzende Neubauten gave this album club a name, so I say it's about time their album is going to be discussed. Jackhammer recommended it a while ago:

Electric drills, power tools and all manner of electric tomfoolery are present on their debut yet it is relatively well defined and cohesive and although it lacks finesse at times, it certainly makes up for it in invention.

Even if you end up not liking it, one cannot deny the originality and verve of it.

How do you feel after a lobotomy? Or after a long day work in heavy industry?

This album set the stage for everything right about music from the 1980's. Anyone who votes anything less than 'excellent' for this record deserves an ass kicking. This is one of the best and most important albums ever made. This band took rock'n'roll to the same place Coltrane took jazz- to its logical conclusion and to a point that no one could top.

I loved their use of power tools within some of the tracks, and the overall tribal-like sound the album conveyed.

I voted solid because simply 'good' wasn't an option.

Better than the last industrial album we dissected for sure. Much more convincingly angry than the former. I still don't really see how there's much to talk about.

Was this the first you listened to it?

Well, solid, good, same thing. That's how it sounds to me. The words I mean.

I'm sure I'll find a way. :D
(This is actually a stab at my habit to make too long posts in these discussion threads, even if I don't always intend to.)

Btw, it seems to me that clutnuckle doesn't dig much Industrial. Just my impression.

I think this might be the case. Well, at least the regular strain of industrial, because I've found myself really digging some death industrial. And I really liked this Throbbing Gristle album I listened to... Meh. We'll see what happens. I didn't at all dislike this album btw, I know my wording might have seemed a bit harsh at the end. I just meant that I don't see much discussion arising from industrial, but that's probably just because I'm not well-versed/immersed in it.

Aside from random youtube clips, yes.

Is there something wrong with not having heard the entire album before hearing it with the club?
