I could tell that when I tried listening to one of the sides of Oracles at a slightly low volume. I could only hear the loudest things, being a growling voice, drums, and eerie noises, and I could tell I was missing out on all the subtleties they always plant in their songs.

Goofle, I would too, but I hear its pretty exhausting just from the amount of vibrations sent through your body.

I saw Sunn O))) live in a small venue about 4 years ago and it was one of the best gigs I've ever been to, but for some reason I've still not heard any of their records. Any of you care to recommend a starting point?

From what I have heard of Sunn O))), 3:Flight of the Behemoth is good. Excellent with headphones!

I'd start with Black One, but Flight of the Behemoth and Monoliths & Dimensions (slight change of direction but still drone) are great too.

Sunn O))) is really great on headphones for sure, an easier listen. But trying to listen on speakers seems like a waste if its too low in volume or a hazard if too high.

Digging a bit of Nadja lately. Their 2007 album Touched (a re-recording of their poorly produced debut) is a remarkable album. I love how fuzzy and full of texture it sounds.

Khlyst - Chaos Is My Name is probably my favorite Drone Doom Metal album outside of Boris's Feedbacker. A brief review from yours truly:

Khlyst's 2006 opus is an ever-changing, never-predictable beast. The eight barely-titled tracks cover a lot of ground, showing a band alternating between harsh vocal and intensely distorted guitar play and a more ominous form of drone with more variety that was strangely reminiscent of Grouper if she joined a doom cult. The album takes awhile to fully sink in, but once a groove is established, it really takes on a new life. The initially jarring transitions, showing off a slow ambiance bridging the gaps between nearly intolerable vocal sessions turns into a highly refined experimental comparison of two forms of music one wouldn't expect to find on one album together. By track seven, the whole thing had taken on a life of its own for me, and I couldn't resist calling it one of my "canon" (whatever the hell that means) selections.
