My band did the soundtrack for this (very strange) short film contest entry:

Anybody who reads this, please reply with your thoughts... good or bad!

Wow!
I've got to say that you and your band managed to hit the sporadic, lo-fi, tounge in cheek humour that the film completely spewed out.

I like it.

I've just finished working on a soundrack for the first time (coincidentally also about a character morphing into something else). I realise that it's not as easy as it looks.

I like the conscious use of guitary stuff vs. electronic oddness (thinking about The Residents as well as Church of the SubGenius propaganda videos).

It's cool - have you done any others??

Thank you for the kind words!

miettesbrainchild,

This was our first completed foray into anything related to video... you are soooo correct about the difficulty. We had started working on a music video for our song "he will not be shamed" with the same director and editor just before they found out about the contest and all of that got put on the back burner. I can tell you from from those two experiences that it is 100 times easier to start with a finished audio track and edit the film to match the beat and transitions than it is to start with a completed film and match the music to that. We probably recorded more than half of it live while watching the preliminary video edit on monitors.

Please post your film/soundtrack if you can. I would love to see/hear it!

Here's some more of our music if you are interested( I can't post links here yet):

Coolio. Will check out your stuff.

This conversation makes me wonder why there shouldn't be a soundtrack forum on musicbanter. It's probably really helpful sharing tips on getting a good soundtrack down. As we both know - it's not all that easy. But having said that it's an incredibly rewarding experience and certainly allows you to mature as a composer and I'd jump at the opportunity to do another one.
A soundtrack forum'd also be a good place for musicians and directors to get together and find mutually appropriate work.
Although I'd imagine there's a more specific forum out there for exactly that.

The film I worked on (with a partner in crime) has been released yet - as soon as it's done and public, I'll be plugging it for sure....

Listening to your tunage - enjoying it and am following you on soundcloud - I'm 'teenage nerd prostitution'.....
