Other Music

I can't for the life of me remember downloading their album Incidents out of Context, but I'm glad I did. It's a little known gem if you ask me. There's not a whole lot about the band on the net, but you can read their history here: Other Music Ensemble: History, Part 1.
They were around from 1975 to 1986 and only released two LPs, and I've only heard the second, from 1983. It's kind of bizarre, but real cool. A lot of electronic tones and dulcimer hammering, but it's all melodic and relatively conventional. I'm no expert, so hear for yourself

Back the **** in the day

This band is something alright, and quite the obscurist's wet dream. I just randomly thought of this album and wanted to toss it on. I love this

Remember when Other Music blew me away as well when I found out about them years back. Cool mix of gamelan-like jazz with microtonal electronics and hammered dulcimers. Haven't listened to them much ever since, but revisited this album today when I browsed back in this forum and found this thread. While the album sure have a couple of top notch supreme moments, now I actually find it extremely uneven and partly even annoying. It sure is worth trying out for the high lights, though. Thanks for the info link!
However, what I actually came here to say is to recommend another group that I allways connect with Other Music, not mainly because it sounds very similar, but it has a similar take on experimenting and I guess they kind of fits right next to each other in the "obscurist's wet dream". Also I remember finding them on the same day I found Other Music, which probably is the biggest reason I connect them (so this recommendation might be considered a bit off topic for some, maybe).

Baroque Jazz Trio
French trio blending baroque harpsichord stuff with ethnic avant-jazz, putting out one album in '70. This one has been more of a keeper for me throughout the years, allthough it is also somewhat uneven. Anyhow, you might wanna try it!

Seems pretty good. I'm gonna need to check these guys out some more.

Back in the 90s, while staying at a favorite B&B in Seattle,
I met the daughter of David Doty of Other Music.
I was a fan of their album, Prime Numbers, and we spent
an evening talking about the band. Will have to revisit them.

Never heard of these people, but I really like this track.

I really like this! It seems to be pretty hard to find their albums unfortunately.
