Quincy Jones Avant-Garde?

Hey guys I have set up this thread to discuss about the techniques that the great Quincy Jones himself pioneered. This is also a part of my project for a degree. Please post your discussion here. Thank you!

If QJ is Avant-Garde then I'm Warren Buffett

If your claim is that he is avant garde for pioneering certain techniques, I think you'd also have to include George Martin and Phil Spector. Would you include them? I actually think it's an interesting point, but I'm not sure if it is your point.

Let's say he's not in the Avant-garde category, but what notable contributions did he make to the American music industry that is on the same par with Phil Spector and George Martin? What I'm trying to find out is that did Quincy Jones pioneered a certain and distinct technique, be it recording, mixing or producing. Thanks.
