Quintron and Miss Pussycat

Not just interesting noise but one of the most entertaining live shows I've ever seen. There's definitely a kitschy element to the act and I think that makes it a little hard for some to take them seriously, but I think they're really cool. An example of the sound:

The crux of the music comes from his invention, the drum buddy. From his website:

Quintron regards his most significant creation to be a patented instrument called THE DRUM BUDDY, a light activated analog synthesizer which creates murky, low-fidelity, rhythmic patterns.

Drum buddy demo (pretty freaking cool):

In addition to the drum buddy he uses a custom-made Hammond organ/Fender Rhodes synthesizer combo simultaneously, the Hammond organ acting as his primary instrument, and the Fender Rhodes supplying bass lines. He can often be seen keeping time on a hi-hat with one foot while toggling between a volume and wah-wah pedal with the other. (thanks wikipedia!)

Miss Pussycat (his wife) makes these incredibly intricate but super weird puppets, shows generally start out with them and they're my favorite part to be honest. She does backup vocals and plays the maracas too.

Anyway, even if you don't like the final product the amount of work that goes into it is pretty admirable, no?

I'm pretty sure it's called Swamp Tech/Electric Swamp. There's one he did called the Frog Tapes, I have no idea if he's serious or not because Quintron loves to give weird interviews, but he's claimed that one was inspired by Eno and Byrne's My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts. There's also a pretty sweet cover of Stray Cat Strut on the Frog Tapes.

I don't know why I'm so fascinated by the puppets, I think I just have a healthy appreciation for the weird and campy. She's done a couple of other things too, there's links to some of the things she's done outside of the pre-show puppetry on their website.

I'm seeing this band tonight. I was going mostly to see Tony Molina, who's opening. But I listened to a couple of Quintron's track on YT and think they're super cool and super fun.
