Default Zu vs. The Thing

Which heavy free jazz group do you prefer? Both are a baritone sax, bass, and drums trio that uses free jazz, heavy metal, noise, and other musical in their music making a strange hybrid. Zu is comprised of Luca T. Mai, Massimo Pupillo, and Jacopo Battaglia (who was later replaced by Gabe Serbian of The Locust to play on their most popular album Carboniferous). The Thing has members Mats Gustafsson, Ingebrigt Håker-Flaten, and Paal Nilssen-Love. They both also have some collaborations that gives them extra credibility in the jazz field.

I've never heard of The Thing. Will definitely give them a listen.

I'm a huge fan of both bands, and while I think that Zu has some fantastic material, I prefer The Thing. On the whole I feel that they're more talented musicians, not to mention that they introduced the noise element into their music with Gustafsson on electronics before Zu released Carboniferous. That's not to mention that I'm a huge fan of their drummer, he really plays some crazy drums. Zu is 4.5/5 and The Thing is 4.9/5. Close call.

The Thing. I'm not very familiar with either, but from what I've heard, I prefer them.

That's a difficult one. The Thing has Mats Gustafsson (No disrespect to the wonderful Luca Mai) and Zu has Massimo Pupillo (No disrespect to the wonderful Ingebrigt Haker-Flaten).
I think I'll just go listen to some Original Silence.
