Making money in the Experimental Genre

because of the niche that experimental music currently holds, it seems impossible to make any money off of it. Should experimental producers reduce themselves to releasing free albums or should producers continue putting prices up for stuff that is rarely bought?

Yes. Nobody pays for music anymore, regardless of which genre you play.

Try working with other artists to help promote your music. ie: as art installation pieces in galleries. As soundtrack music for film, independent shorts, PSA's, etc.as theater background music for dance or dramatic performance. May not yield any money at first but word-of-mouth will get your music noticed if it's good or someone can realize the functionality of it.

I whole-heartedly agree with this. This is what I'm trying to do, but my town is full of classicists.

The only good reason to get involved with experimental music is because you like experimental music.

Money? That's a good one.

Good shot, it is not easy nowadays. It's more of a idealistic thing anyway.
Nevertheless, I feel like experimental music will be more popular in the future.
