Default Amon Duul II

Yes, they're mentioned in the myriad threads we have on Krautrock, but if Can and Neu! get their own space so should these guys. Though putting them over Can isnt going to happen, i think they're probably my second favourite of the Kraut gang, Yeti and Phallus Dei are both exceptional IMO, whilst Tanz Der Lemminge is growing on me fast. They were a little different from their contempories in that they were rooted more in rock music as oppose to the jazz, world and ambient stylings prevalent within the movement, but they were just as experimental and their albums tend to descend into mind-blowing psychedelic freak outs. Great song structures too... all in all killer band. Some of you already know them, but for those who dont:

Just picked up Wolf City, as incredible as anything they've done.

A better word would be "coherent", but it still drips and tears spaces like their previous shuttle jams.

Wolf City is fantastic and is probably one of the better entry points into their discography.

I know them, got all the albums mentioned so far in the thread and Phallus Dei is the one I know and like the best. I haven't been quite blown away, but they have some thoroughly enjoyable stuff and I prefer them to Amon Düül!

I really love Yeti, but I haven't listened to their other albums enough yet.

I think my favourite moment is in Soap Shop Rock c. Gulp A Sonata when it sounds like a vampire opera of some sort.

I keep forgetting to split the folder up on my HD as I have both I and II in there! If i'm in the right mood then they really hit the spot. For some reason I keep mixing these up with Ash Ra Tempel so when I want to listen to one of them I usually put the other band on by accident

Ash Ra Tempel is no match for this band. and i'm a HUGE Klaus Schulze fan.

Phallus Dei is pretty good, Tanz der Lemminge (Dance of the Lemmings) is better, Yeti is orgasmic. i don't have much from their back catalog but they're certainly one of my favorite German bands.

Picked up Phallus Dei and fell in love. Will definitely be checking out the rest of their stuff.
