Rock Opera.

Thoughts on the subject?

I personally enjoy it immensely. The East Village Opera Company, the only Rock Opera group I really know of, is fantastic! If you haven't tried them out, you really should. My person favorites are:

The Overture from Le Nozze di Figaro
Nessun dorma
Che gelida manina
La donna e mobile (The first song they ever tried to "rockify" :])
King of the Night (It's just a male singing the Queen of the Night's famous aria)
You're Not Alone (Words added to one of Bach's cantatas!)

Anyways, they are just a spectacular group. And very friendly!

Rock Opera goes beyond Tommy by the Who? That's cool. I've heard of the East Village Opera Company but never listened, therefore never realized that they were "rock opera"

In general, I definitely prefer a composer's original orchestration to any sort of dumbed down version.

I don't know if I consider them "dumbed down." The arrangements of the works are incredible, and the people singing them have so much passion about opera! They are all huge fans themselves, which is of course lovely to know. But about prefering a composer's original orchestration, I completely understand what you mean. I find all of the original compositions to be ten times greater than the rock version, but I really admire people like The East Village Opera Company who are trying to get people to go back to classical music. As an opera-obsessed teenager, I am incredibly aware of how unappreciative my peers are to classical music. I have a few friends, however, that I convinced to listen to this rock opera, and after doing so have now begun to listen to their original compositions, and have already bought season tickets for our local opera company's performances coming up. If these "dumbed down" versions of songs get people to appreciate the true work, isn't it worth it all?

I'm not trying to ruin anyone's agenda. I just think the EVO's stuff sounds pretty generic.

Maybe they could do Wozzeck next or something.
