Arvo Pärt

Arvo Pärt, any of y'all fans?

I'm new and couldn't see much about him, ideal opportunity to make people aware of this guys amazing music. He's a modern Estonian classical composer with some pretty amazing compositions. Mainly minimalistic but epic (sounds a bit contradictory no?) pieces which are a joy to listen to, really atmospheric and perfect for relaxing. I wouldn't be too scared if you're not a keen classical music fan, I'd say he's the sort of composer who could make a sceptic become a fan.

Anyway, good things to start with would probably be:

Te Deum and Tabula Rasa.

Any other members have any favourite compositions?

I'd post links to CD covers and links to YouTube but I'm currently working my way out of the newbie straight jacket which restricts me to using text only.

:o:

Yes, I love Arvo Pärt. I just listened to Alina again yesterday actually.

I really like his Te Deum for chorus and orchestra. You can listen to some of it on Amazon and see if you like it. It's a nice introduction and not too far gone from traditional classical music.

I have Tabula Rasa and De Pacem. I like both of them, but Da Pacem a bit more for some reason. I'd like to get Lamentate; I hear it's beautiful.

Listening to Summa (for string orchestra) right now... this is great stuff

Gidon Kremer and some Japanese harp player did "Spiegel Im Spiegel" in the album called "insomnia". that's the most beautiful music ive ever heard

@PPeeks, do you mean a Japanese koto player? I'll have to listen to it. I love Arvo Part. A few years ago I fiddled around with Fratres on the violin. So beautiful.

Got De Profundis by Paul Hillier and Theatre of Voices yesterday.

The closing track is beautiful.

Will definitely be looking for more.

I think he came up on my Penderecki station, and i remember liking him. They called him a "holy minimalist" or some other nonsense of the sort and whatnot.

'Scuse my ignorance but what is your Penderecki station?

OccultHawk 04-27-2017 10:35 PM

Bumping a very old thread to say Penderecki Station is probably something he or she created on Pandora.

And I also wanted to spread some Arvo Part love.

Part Arvo, part something else.
