Favourite song

For me, it's Pachelbels Canon. I also love Hungarian Rhapsody by Mozart.

Edgil 01-31-2004 06:25 AM

i would haaave to say....
hmm wow for just single song i would say
.
Mozart - Fur Elise
.
but theres some good minuets within operas and stuff that i like ;)

abakubub 01-31-2004 11:01 AM

This is nitpicky, but it was beaten into my head by every violin instructor I've ever had: it's only a song if it has words - otherwise it's a piece. That said, my favourite classial piece is probably Tchaikovsky's 1812 Overture.
....
Also, Für Elise was written by Beethoven, not Mozart :)

[Apologies for nitpickiness, once again]

Thankyou for making the distinction between song and piece! I don't mind the nitpickiness. You're completely right. Also, nice piece choice!

Meghan 02-01-2004 12:41 PM

I also have to add Moonlight Sonata.

Edgil 02-01-2004 07:14 PM

are you sure? beethoven's pieces are more.... hard and have less harmony whereas fur elise is very dainty and follows a pattern such as mozart would write, i could be wrong but hey **** beethoven he sucks ass lol

i guess i was wrong, oh well **** it i downloaded
Mozart - Fur Elise

so whatever lol

abakubub 02-02-2004 03:43 PM

You can't have listened to much Beethoven... He can be very harmonic at times. And Für Elise was definately written by him; I've got it on CD. People on file sharing networks presist in mislabeling their files, it's just the way of the world.

Meghan 02-02-2004 07:04 PM

I think that we can move on now.

Edgil 02-05-2004 08:06 AM

lets digress

Rockafella Skank 02-05-2004 03:56 PM

Yeah, either way it is a damn good piece. :) One of my favorites as well.

siegfried88 02-09-2004 05:54 PM

"Song"?

Siefrieds Tod und Trauermarsch, Wagner.

siegfried88 02-09-2004 09:13 PM

Adagio for Strings, Barber

banonbush 02-10-2004 02:22 PM

the rite of spring...composer not known to me at this time...oh well... song still rules.

abakubub 02-10-2004 02:52 PM

Igor Stravinsky, sir.

abakubub 02-10-2004 03:02 PM

He's not exactly a Classical composer either, as he was one of the pioneers of 20th century Modernist composing. The Rite of Spring is amazing though, good choice.

There's a good article on Stravinsky here:
http://www.time.com/time/time100/art...travinsky.html

And compositions without words are called PIECES, not songs, dammit!

abakubub 02-10-2004 03:11 PM

And as long as I'm sidetracked on modern composing.... Harry Partch's "Barstow" and his somewhat harder to find "US Highball" are amazing, as are Charles Ives' "They are There!" and his three-part "Three Places in New England".

banonbush 02-11-2004 08:08 AM

thanks you abakubub

Edgil 02-11-2004 12:31 PM

one of those songs they play on like channel 951 on direct tv its like "Classical Masterpieces" they have good songs there man ;)

DJ_Jester 02-16-2004 12:43 PM

So I'm not really into classical music, but I like to talk so I am saying that I like Stevie Vai's version of Beethoven's 5th.

Edgil 02-17-2004 07:28 AM

I just thought of something... I don't like a whole lot of techno stuff but there are a lot of techno remixes of classical songs that are pretty sweet ;)

mynameismike 06-06-2004 08:23 PM

i like the song that starz™ used in their commercial... i just can't think of the name.

granjan 07-07-2004 10:24 PM

Mike, I think the piece you are referring to is "Ode to Joy"....hope this helps

BlackFOXmusicBOX 07-17-2004 03:05 PM

I love the Prokofiev piano Concertos. I hope to play them someday with an orchestra. I am working on Nocturne by Debussy and it is the most Beautiful Nocturne I have ever heard. Also I love the Scherzos and Ballades by Chopin (especially G minor Ballade).I could go on and on so I'll quit with these few pieces.

ForgottenHero 11-03-2004 11:05 PM

Yes, Canon by Pachebel is the best Symphony ever. ~Hero<(".<)

C-Lydian 11-18-2004 08:19 PM

If its Baroque, I like it (9/10ths of the time) I really like Prelude in C Maj
It was origonally writen as an excersize for Bach's students....and a darn good one it was. Played well on Piano or the nylon stringed guitar, it is a beatiful and expresive piece that is tough to beat.
Another piece from a different period, was a vocal arangment by Rocmaninove (can't spell the names) Bogro Dietse Dievo..... or somthing like that...

Moonlight Sonata is also my favorite--I took pointed piano lessons once--meaning that I didnt learn how to play but instead just learned how to play one song--and that was the song I attempted to learn--needless to say point lesssons dont really work.

Freddie_Mercury 11-04-2005 09:17 PM

Chopins Nocturne in C# Minor.

Accipiter 11-07-2005 10:33 AM

Vivaldi is awesome. His Four Seasons CD is so soothing.

slimshady 11-11-2005 06:01 AM

Pachelbel's Canon is a chamber music piece, not a symphony. :)

Dorische Toccata by Bach.

It's epic, it's almost.....Metal!.

You can just imagine a deformed hunchback shuffling through his epic brooding manor on the hill top, sitting at a mighty organ and blasting this out into the night.

Villagers close the shutters on their hovels and fear to venture out into the night as the ominous music permeates through the thick brooding fog, small children cry in their rickity wooden cots and fathers sit staring into the fire, trying to hide their fear.

The Wolves begin to howl in the mountains.......the night belongs to Ivan and his dark music.

Moonlight Sonata - Beethoven
Its such a masterpiece, I cannot fathom how you can write such a beautiful piece of music as he did.
