I'm looking for orchestral music that sounds really big and powerful, something with a mood along the lines of the "heavier" moments in Vivaldi's "Four Seasons".

Are you familiar with The Planets, by Gustav Holst?

I'm sure I listened to it at some point, but I don't remember much.
Thanks for the tip, I'll check it out.
The beginning sounds promising and seems to be pretty much what I was looking for.

Also try out György Ligeti's String Quartets.

They are great, but I was looking for something orchestral and more on the traditional side.
Although some more modern minimal music would be nice as well.
I've been listening to a lot of Michael Nyman lately, his music also sometimes has the heaviness I'm looking for.

This is my first ever MB post, not counting my introduction.
Kabalevsky strange and dissonant? Hmmm...

George Bizet: Carmen. See more suggestions here: http://www.musicbanter.com/classical...cal-music.html
