Default Impressionist Music

What are your favorite works?

The music is characterized by very dense textures and focused highly on the overall 'mood' & 'atmosphere' rather than emotional outrage often preferred by the romanticist. The works are also comparatively shorter in length, usually in the form of a Nocturne or Prelude for example. There's also quite a bit of dissonance involved, but it's not overboard as in the 20th century classical.

Currently, I'm in love with Debussy's Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun.

The flute predominates the piece and it springs images of grand nature into my head, composed of nymphs, satyrs, forests and rivers on a gloomy afternoon. I love strolling through Albert Bierstadt's paintings (in my head) while listening to this.
