Karlheinz Stockhausen

I've done a search and I'm actually quite surprised that in a forum about classical music, there's nothing on Karlheinz Stockhausen's works.

So, any other Stockhausen fans here? I've been a fan for a good few years now, and Aus Der Sieben Tagen is among my all-time favorite pieces of music.

Certainly a visionary, one with a lot of bad stuff cluttering up his good works... But yeah, I'm a fan of him in general. I'll be honest, some of his music that I've heard out and about outright blows, but whenever I take the time to really search for a particular 'renowned' recording and listen to it, it's quite the experience. Certainly not for everybody, though. Hymnen is out of this world, as is the entirety of Kontakte.

I would consider him more in the Avant-Garde/Experimental forum. But yea, Stockhausen is amazing. I am always amazed at how modern some of his music is. I remember looking at a lot of his work in the 50's... completely blown away.

This is one of the very first Stockhausen pieces I heard:

And it's one of his best works, in my opinion!

Also, I found this on Youtube: an excerpt from a lecture he gave in 1972, on Electronic Music.

Lovely. I especially love the way he says 'etcetera'.

I saw a quartet play a multi-media version of the Helikopter Streichquartett at Juilliard once. It was really cool. Their name was the Nonamé string quartet.

Does anyone have any high quality Stockhausen albums? I've been trying to get into Stockhausen, but I'm not happy with the bitrates on the links I've found.
