Amazing!

Good stuff. Really liked the 'playing upside down' bit (I think really anybody who plays will know that one of the hardest things with playing keyed instruments is working past the fact most people have a dominant, and recessive hands. Most piano pieces are written to somewhat accommodate for this, being able to reverse it is a true sign of an amazing amount of motor skill. Not to mention the difficulty of sight reading in reverse). Hopefully he extends beyond the appeal of the gimmick becomes something amazing. Not 100% sold that he will, but that is very much rather impressive.

Hahaha, I saw this on stumbleupon like 3 days ago.

I wanna eat his heart and absorb his musical talent.

Thom Yorke 12-17-2011 11:55 PM

Well, I can catch a baseball better than him...

Seriously though, that's incredible. Being able to channel two or three different compositions at once on top of everything else is the thing that got me.

What got me is that he was able to draw a cello at the age of 2, having never seen or heard of one in his life, and also being able to name it "cello"... Then going and playing one how it's supposed to be played.

Either something is wrong with that picture, or he's god.
(Or his parents are blowing things out of proportion)

Yeah that part made no sense. He has the innate ability to know what a cello is.

That's pretty much when I turned the video off. The kid obviously has talent, for all we know, but I get jaded when I see something very obvious like that used as a representative of someone's talent, then I'm expected to not think the report hasn't been pumped up further than it actually is.

Could have easily got it from the 'Computer Crashing' factoid. Then again, remember, this is popcorn TV. So, they're going to portray things exaggeratedly.

Thing is, this may be a publicity stunt of just some random kid with a high amount of interest in music who lucks out, gets attention from a major music conservatory, and is milked immediately to spark attention. Perhaps even pieces of his work are fixed up, or doctored. Not impossible. I mean, the world of traditional music has been clawing at the edge of oblivion since Elvis's gyrations.

However, For the dim chance there is truth to this, it's really amazing that somebody is getting an opportunity to express himself creatively this early in life, with all the resources at his hands to develop into something amazing. I'm just fearing the pressure might make this kid cave.

As for his work now. Listening to it, and it's not bad. I'm not blown out of my seat, but it's definitely better than something I could see myself doing.

Just for the potential, I'm taking the benefit of the doubt.

Freebase Dali 12-18-2011 05:46 PM

Oh definitely. A agree there, Ska.
It would be interesting to see if the kid becomes sort of a mainstay in the scene, too.

Phantom Limb 12-18-2011 05:53 PM

Too bad this kid will never have friends or a girlfriend for that matter.
