Need help identifying a musical genre

Hello folks,

currently I'm trying to identify a musical genre and I thought that this forum might be the one most closely related to it. Basically the type of song I'm looking for sounds like this:

- Mostly classical instruments
- Often lead by strings
- (sometimes) Fast disco-like beat
- Usually heroic undertone
- Often used in 80s soaps and cop dramas

Examples may include:

- Opening theme to the Dallas soap series
- Opening theme to Knots landing
- Opening theme to Dynasty

Thanks a lot!

I would say you're talking about 1980's filmscore... probably with an emphasis popular musics?

I would agree, sounds like you're thinking of "80s Film Score" Music. During the time, that style was pretty popular in other genres as well, like the Phantom of the Opera [/URL] musical written in 1986 (orchestra, fast disco-beat, lead by strings, and synths). I think you forgot about the brass too! Remnants of that "Big Band" style are still in there.

Of course, we could make up a name for the genre if you want :)
