When do you like to listen to classical?

I've recently reignited an old childhood obsession with classical music. Vivaldi and Handel are my current go-to's, but of course, that'll probably change by next month. I find myself wanting to listen to classical nonstop while I work, whether its manual work or desk work... No other genre will do. I'm coming to free-associate work with classical music, in fact, and I was just wondering...

When do you guys listen to classical? Does the mood come and go or is it during specific activities/tasks/times of the day??

Pet_Sounds 11-22-2015 09:41 AM

Classical is great at any time except those (rare) occasions I feel like dancing wildly.

Insane Guest 11-22-2015 04:05 PM

Any time I want to focus, think, reflect, or be inspired. Sometimes my mind seems to be going along with the inflection of the music.

I totally agree. If I'm feeling lazy, I'll pop some in and find that my work naturally synchronizes itself with the ebb and flow of the tempo, not only making work more enjoyable but also keeping me highly productive for longer periods of time, with less burn out for some reason. Because of this, I think I'm starting to free associate classical music with success.

My husband is not a music junkie like I am, and usually doesn't let me play music at all when he's around (especially anything electronic), so it's nice to finally be able to listen to music when we're in the same vicinity.

I will say my quality of life improved quite a bit after I picked up listening to classical again (I was in a music rut for almost a decade straight)

Mr. Charlie 11-23-2015 12:20 PM

I don't really have a time when I want to play classical. If I'm in the mood then I put it on. I don't use it to focus or drift away and such.

But when I play classical I do always think to myself oh classical is the best music. But then I think folk is the best music when I play folk. And that blues is the best when I play blues. And trance is the best when... yeah. Whatever I play always seems the best.

There is no fixed time. When I want to listen to music, classical music is always the first choice

Chula Vista 12-21-2015 06:37 PM

Ya, when the mood hits.

Zhanteimi 12-21-2015 07:12 PM

I put on classical music when I have a dinner party so that all my friends will think I'm cultured and intelligent.

1so-static 12-27-2015 02:54 PM

Before going into the recording studio to throw my throat down the microphone

chopinisawesome 12-27-2015 02:58 PM

All the time. I've recently gotten into a bit of an obsession with it. As a matter of fact, I'm listening to the third movement of Mozart's seventeenth piano concerto right now.

JGuy Grungeman 01-03-2016 03:37 PM

Whenever I feel like it, really.

monglae 04-24-2016 04:28 AM

I like to listen to classical music whenever I have to concentrate on something. Like listening to something "meditation" from Thais or Bach's suite no.3 Air when studying is like the best feeling in the world. It never zones me out, and when I want to relax I just close my eyes and listen to them carefully.

PedroJoséBernardezSarria 11-13-2016 02:23 AM

Now and then when at the computer; everyday when I'm studying/playing it on the piano. Right now I'm working on Mozart's KV 330.

Nucleotide 12-07-2016 06:39 AM

In the beginning of a work day, I think. For me, classical is the opposite of a background music, I prefer to pay attention.

Yep - that's EXACTLY what dat classico stuff's good for - background wallpaper for more important and/or tedius tasks.

Rock on.

I listen to "classical" (I hate the genre name) ALL THE ****ING TIME, it's an obsession.

I love putting Xenakis, Varese, Stravinsky, Stockhausen, Gesualdo, Grisey, Penderecki, Webern, Schoenberg, Murail etc, up as ****ing loud as possible on my car speakers when I go for a drive :D

My principle with classical is pretty much the same as metal and jazz, "if it's not loud, then turn it off"

Of course I'll still put some Brahms or Mahler on when I have one of those angst moments where life feels like ****. Also a good late-Beethoven String Quartet or some Bach organ music when I'm contemplating more esoteric things.

But classical music ain't ****ing background music, lol

Inna Selez 10-13-2017 10:15 AM

When I relaxing at home or at live concerts.

MicShazam 10-13-2017 11:02 AM

When I remember that there's 2 classical CD's hidden among the 600 other CD's I have, so not often.

Ol’ Qwerty Bastard 10-13-2017 11:04 AM

For some reason I thought of Chiomara. Well, I hope she comes back.
Chelsea might be before my time.

When do you like to listen to death metal?

Ella Stone 04-03-2018 04:27 AM

Edith Piaf is eternal love, regardless of mood

HowardThomas 01-29-2019 05:18 AM

There is no such particular time, i listen to it all the time. In fact i'm addicted to classical music.

MasterRaro 02-22-2022 02:44 PM

Besides simply always... I would say in the car, especially on a long drive. The monotonous task of driving calms your busy thoughts but demands enough focus and alertness to be in the perfect zone for active listening. The acoustic chamber effect of the car also helps really feel inside the music.

A significant percent of the classical music I enjoy doesn’t lend itself to having others talk over it. So, unless I’m with like minded listeners, the serious stuff doesn’t get an airing when I’ve got visitors.
When driving I avoid playing anything really heavy that normally has me listen with my eyes closed - for obvious reasons.

music_collector 06-06-2022 08:43 PM

I tend to listen to it late at night, as a way to wind down before bed. I find it helpful after I get home full of adrenaline from playing hockey.

Ah, adrenalin and hockey, I understand. Hockey was one of the few team sports I tried only to find it could get extremely vicious if the umpires didn’t have eyes in the back of their heads. But hey, I found all team sports too vicious for me so I took to swimming, cycling and running.

SoloYH 09-22-2022 02:33 AM

Pretty much all the time. There's always something for every occasion.

A guy actually thought classical music was my fetish because I always had it on. Like I get off on classical music. Lol,.

Meatwad 09-13-2023 07:40 AM

Usually when Im studying I'll listen to instrumental music (I cant study listening to music with vocals) which invariably means some classical music (baroque mostly) in my rotation.

"Miserere mei deus" is also one of my phones alarms. :)
