Felix Mendelssohn, 5 Symphonies - Berliner Philharmoniker, Herbert von Karajan

It's been released in different formats several times through the years. I'm fairly certain the original release was in '73. But if you own no other Mendelssohn Symphonies this set (in nearly any version) is the one to get. I was wonderfully surprised.

Alfred Schnittke/Lev Markiz & New Stockholm Chamber Orchestra - Concerto grosso I; Concerto for Oboe and Harp; Concerto for Piano and Strings

I'm ashamed to say that I somehow have never consciously listened to Schnittke.
This is absoluely amazing music. Powerful, beautiful and often damn scary.

Michael Harrison - Revelation

Beautiful, somewhat minimalistic microtonal piano music.
Not sure any more but I think I found this through Hawk's rec several months back.
If so, thanks a lot for that.

Three Pieces for Two Pianos Larry Polansky (2016, New World Records)

Descriptive phrases I've encountered about this disc like Polansky's algorithmic approach set against earnest expression with a dallop of humor to stave off pretension (love that one) give you an idea. For me it's a pensive Monday and this is wonderful accompaniment. Nice jumping-in point for those unfamiliar with Polansky. Streaming on most platforms.

LUDWIG VAN BEETHOVEN
Symphonien No. 5 · No. 7
Wiener Philharmoniker
Carlos Kleiber

I’ve listened to 5 and 7 together so many times that the distinction between the two has become blurred.

That’s actually not good.

Mozart: Complete String Trios Jacques Thibaud String Trio (2020, audite Musikproduktion)

Essentially, it's Mozart’s study of JS Bach’s œuvre, including his Divertimento, K563, the Six Preludes and Fugues, K404a and a curious fragment in G maj. All wonderfully rendered. Essential Mozart for any chamber music lover.
