Default Milano Doesn't Know Anything About Country Music

It's true, I know close to nothing about the genre except for the popular opinions.

This thread idea was formed from a discussion in the Slayer vs Metallica thread, and I thought it was a very good one, considering we have one just like this for The Beatles with Jans.

So pretty much the same layout as his, I don't hate Country so I am not going to jump to conclusions about the genre as a whole until I hear something I potentially like, but may have accidentally skipped over. Just recommend some songs or perhaps full albums in the thread or through PM and I can give my thoughts. I won't write full on thorough reviews but I will definitely say if I like it or not. I'm pretty much open to anything, and I figured it's a good time to get exposed to the genre some more.

Bob listed some good ones. Patsy Cline is synonymous with good country vocals. My dad is huge on country. Willie Nelson is his favorite. But he really likes the supergroup from the 70's The Outlaws.

Thanks James! Currently waiting for that album to download, so i'm giving the "I'm A Lonely Fugitive" song a listen right now, and I really like the feel of it. It's very calming and the lyrics are pretty damn good. The mixture of male and female vocalists is very well done as well, not too overwhelming and not too over exposed. I'll give the other videos a listen as well.

Something a little off the beaten path. One of Elvis Costello's best.

Townes Van Zandt - Our Mother The Mountain

I've been listening to this album James sent me. More than half way through, and I hadn't even realized it. This album plays so smoothly with each track. Not to mention the vocalist match exactly what I like to hear in a folk esque / country esque environment. All the songs are very emotional and sing about something with meaning, which I also love. It's an interesting change from the typical male and female vocalist style in country. It's also a very cool mixture of the acoustic guitar and harmonica.

I really do enjoy this album, and it may be a regular listen when i'm in the mood for this style of music. Very good recommendation James, no disappointments.
