I think the instumentals on that album are great. The songs with lyrics aren't that good, except for knockin on heavens door of course. But I still enjoy that album a lot.

I can see how his voice could be an acquired taste but it sounds awesome to me.

I only have John Wesley Harding left to listen to, but I might put it off as I give some of the other albums second listens. I'll get to it eventually.

Out of what I've listened to so far, a few albums have stood out. The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan is really enjoyable. It has a nice sense of variety on it. And Blonde on Blonde stands out among his rock albums, but that might just be because I need to listen to the other ones more still.

me, i don't really like his pre-electric stuff that much, besides the odd few songs

definitely a stronger set than World Gone Wrong - i mean, seriously, wtf was that? it's even worse than his debut

Gave Highway 61 Revisted another listen and yeah it's pretty damn good. I'm not gonna lie; I was highly skeptical of the album being as great as everybody preaches and I sort of still am. It's definitely more focused of an effort than Blonde on Blonde, but I'm still preferring the latter for now.

Another Side of Bob Dylan has some really nice songs but I can't say I was impressed with every track. And the Times They Are A Changin' impressed me even less, and it felt a bit like a chore to listen to all the way through.

Another Side of is mostly a transitional album, he was pissed with the protest songs and wanted to go to the "nonsense" phase

as it is, the acoustic backing doesn't really fit the "nonsense" lyrics

Sounds about right. All I Really Want To Do, Motorpsycho Nitemare, and It Ain't Me Babe are all great songs but most of the other songs on the album I don't remember as well.

I realized that I didn't mention my thoughts on his debut, but then again I probably don't need to. Cute album, overshadowed by everything I've heard that comes after it.

I think Another side of Bob Dylan is great. Black crow blues is a fun song. Chimes of freedom, Ballad in plain D and My back pages are all great songs with great lyrics. What "nonsense lyrics? I think Another side has some great lyrics. I wouldn't be surprised if it was Bob who said they were "nonsense" lyrics. He's always been pretty modest.

I can see how you would be skeptical of the hype for Highway 61, it's not my favorite Dylan album but nonetheless it is great. I think I might prefer Blonde on Blonde as well, but then again, maybe not.

The times they are a changing is definitely one of his worst of his oldest albums.

Give them all a few more listens. I think Bob is someone who you have to listen to quite a bit before you really start getting into his music. Like I said, first time I heard him I thought "What is this crap?" In my opinion, you kind of have to wait for Bob to find you. At least that's how it worked for me. One of his songs will catch you when you're in the right mood for it and it will blow you away. I had listened to him before but there was one moment when he really clicked and really spoke to me more than he ever did before.

It's definitely a great album. But I don't think it's as good as his other earlier albums, although it's better than his first. I like the title track. I think North country blues is probably my favorite off that album.
