Good Irish bands

I was listening to their album for a while, it sounded good enough on the first few listens but it kinda started to bore me after that. There's a few decent songs on it alright but there's plenty of unmemorable ones too. 'Heisenberg' is a nice haunting song though.

The Script are a good band, just saying. I love U2's older stuff, it is some good stuff.

Yes, I`ve been looking for that kind of music too !

You might like to check out these guys,who all focus on lively musicianship with traditional instruments, rather than smooth "Celtic Mood" romance :-
- Lunasa; lots of old-style but fresh-sounding jigs. All their stuff is instrumental, as far as I know.
- Sharon Shannon; described as the Jimmy Hendrix of the accordian, she successfully blends Irish folk playing with Latin/ Scandanavian and other folk elements.
-Altan; their Island Angel album is half and half - fast, beautifully played jigs alternate with slower, sung ballads.
-Shooglenifty; an exciting mix of traditional Scottish and electronic dance music. If they`re using the bodhran, it`s lost among the electronic tweaks and clangs which make Solar Shears one of my favourite albums.(Only one track has vocals.)
- Gaelic Storm; notable for featuring in the lower-decks dance sequence in Titanic, for my liking too many of their songs have Jovial-Boozers-All type lyrics, which is another pitfall for Celtic bands, right ?

Well, good luck - I`m off to check out the list that Hype8 posted here earlier, and some of the other suggestions too; The Bothy Band and The Tannahill Weavers are supposed to be good.

I love the good old irish folk song "whisky in the jar"
Covered my thin lizzy, metallica and loads of other bands.

Never get bored of that tune

I don't really think the Irish are good at "Rock" overall- tho I sort of liked Think Lizzy. I just find U2-especially Bono- irritating.
Some great Irish Folk bands, tho. The Chieftans and the Dubliners
And the Pogues when that drunk guy with bad teeth was still with them

Davy Spillane is a master of the uileann pipes. Check out his album "Shadow hunter". Also "The legend of Deirdre" by Mychael and Jeff Danna. And of course, "Erinsaga" (see me about that, or any of these you'd like to hear)...
