Let's not mix Spanish with Latin. Shakira doesn't count as Spanish music.
I obviusly love Spanish music, because I'm Spanish and we've had many great composers. In classical music, for example, El Amor Brujo (Danza Ritual Del Fuego) by Manuel de Falla is one of the most famous Spanish compositions and one of the best ones ever imo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=auRUxPPqDcQ But for me, the musical piece that would represent Spanish music is Entre Dos Aguas, by the famous Flamenco guitarist Paco de Lucía, one of my favourite musicians, he also collaborated with other great guitarists: Al Di Meola and John McLaughlin. Entre Dos Aguas is an intrumental piece, composed by De Lucía and recorded in 1973. It's a great piece, please listen to it if you really want to get familiar with Spanish music, I don't know if others have already recommended it, cause the thread is too long but I'm gonna post it, anyway: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0vq3qZwaXrw Spain lived under a strong dictatorship from 1939 to 1975, so it took a very long time for music like pop and rock to develop. However, there was a very popular band from the 60s called Los Bravos, I didn't even know they were Spanish because they sang in English, they were probably Spain's most internationally famous band of the moment. They had a very successful hit named Black Is Black which they had to record in England because of Spain's conservative ideology of that time: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_CcdzkSlw2s Spain's pop music reached its highlight in the 80s with pop bands like Mecano, which had a lot of success in European countries like France or Italy. This guy is incredible! I love Spanish music; it always sounds so sexy. As a frequent visitor to distrokid music store, I'm always on the lookout for new tunes and artists to explore.
