What are you talking about? Lynyrd Skynyrd is very rarely reffered to as "rock country", everyone calls them southern rock. As is the The Allman Brothers Band.

Vjay 09-06-2007 11:32 PM

hey don't shoot me i am only quoting a previous post

Mr_headshot 09-07-2007 06:25 AM

Yeah, "rock country" would be Charlie Daniels or Hank Williams Jr. (or 3rd for that matter, if you like punk country)

Blue Sunday 09-07-2007 07:58 AM

I like country when I am in a sad mood. I am not really into pop-country but more of the slower ballad type stuff.

djchameleon 09-11-2007 05:33 AM

what? how can you listen to country when in a sad mood? that stuff is depressing as is. I tolerate country because they have some good love songs that I can use to make mix cds for my gf.

sleepy jack 09-11-2007 02:29 PM

Country isn't that depressing.

<3_BEAUTIFUL_HELL_FAIRY_<3 09-12-2007 01:41 PM

I can dance to it and sometimes even sing to it.... and when its not going on about their trucks and such... its actually pretty good music...

I'm quoting this

Frances 09-13-2007 09:54 PM

Nice.

Cari Lynn 09-23-2007 08:54 PM

I grew up listening to Country as a kid, so it's stayed with me.

PlayItLoud 09-25-2007 04:45 PM

I like country because it is relaxing and serene. There's other song that are a bit more wild but I think it's the lyrics that make them good songs.

Stlfocus421 09-25-2007 09:21 PM

its like pop but its just isnt as hard and you can mellow out

sunny2side2up 10-14-2007 05:04 PM

Country is my favorite kind of music, but I am not limited to it. I like other kinds too. I like it because it is different from other kinds of music and the people singing it sing about what they want whether it's God or having a beer. Although I do like country music, I don't agree with everything that is sung about.

I had to ask my boss to turn it off, and I ended up getting fired. But I'm happy I did becuase I don't have to listen to country anymore.

Amen to that...I completely agree with everything you said. My girlfriend unfortunately likes country...and loves Brad Paisley, I may throw up.

anticipation 10-21-2007 11:22 AM

i like country because it sucks.

gb550 10-21-2007 08:51 PM

old country is good, i don't get new country

ghettoguitar 10-24-2007 10:38 AM

nothing is worse than being forced to listen to cheesy country songs

TheBig3 10-25-2007 01:12 PM

Sustained Notes. You can find them in multitude in the country I listen to and I think its a great device to put to use in music.

jnbammer 10-25-2007 03:05 PM

It's nostalgic. It brings back good memories. I don't cry in my beer over it though.

MissouriPicker 10-30-2007 06:08 PM

I like older country far more than the new. To me, the "older" was more about a way of life. New country, in many cases, is alot of noise and a line dance.

Exodizer 11-01-2007 01:15 AM

I try to respect all forums of Music but...

Why I try to respect all forums of music is simple because it's not totally your choice what you listen to. My parents didn't listen to music when I was growing up and I developed my own taste. Your parents have a huge part in determing what you listen to and so do your friends while your growing up. I do not like country, but I'm trying to learn to respect it. I just can't respect rap, Hardcore or reggae, because simply there isn't enough music involved. Can someone good country songs that I could try? I really want to respect it but it really seems unmusical.

The Dave 11-01-2007 08:36 AM

Josh Small is pretty good- MySpace.com - Josh Small - RICHMOND, US - Soul / Nu-Jazz / Folk - www.myspace.com/joshsmall

TheBig3 11-01-2007 10:21 AM

Do you care to elaborate on that final sentence there?

Sneer 11-01-2007 11:00 AM

You really do contradict yourself

jackhammer 11-01-2007 02:47 PM

Reggae-not enough music involved? My god you really are naiive are'nt you? We will educate you!

Reggae is about rhythm and compared to Jazz is very, very simple. There's nothing else there. As for elaborting on my last sentence Have you ever seen a classical guitarist? Have you ever seen a country guitarist. Do you understand how hard it is to play a Homophonic (this means the you play the chord progression, bass (not as in the instrument but as in the lowest melody of a Homophonic piece of music) and melody at the same time) piece of music on a guitar. There were definatly great Country guitarists like Chet Atkins, but the major of country music is a simple melody and a guy singing over it. I'm asking doesn't Country get any more complicated?

Urban Hat€monger ? 11-01-2007 03:30 PM

If your looking for technically performed music played at a high standard you've obviously missed the point of what music like Country , Reggae & other forms of Folk music are about , which is about telling stories & singing about everyday life with lyrics people can relate to.
The whole beauty of these genres is that anybody can pick up an instrument & make a statement.

sleepy jack 11-01-2007 03:30 PM

I don't know how you can listen to guys like Hank Williams, Kris Kristofferson or Johnny Cash and not have respect for it. They were great songwriters and storytellers and mean more to most people than any of your precious composers. In addition to that, I don't think you understand country, actually reading your posts I don't think you understand most music. Here is some examples of great modern country.

Why ask? It's seems you already now the answer to your own question...in great detail.

What are your thoughts on Blues?

swim 11-01-2007 05:17 PM

Simplicity doesn't equal bad. There's a lot more to music than how complicated something's written. Notes and rhythms are only a small part of music.

cardboard adolescent 11-01-2007 05:50 PM

Bluegrass is pretty technical, you could take it as a subgenre of country.

I couldn't agree with you more. Notes and rhythms are only a small fraction of music, but singing about "stories and everyday things people can relate to" is a much smaller fraction. All I'm asking is isn't there more complicated country. There always is! Does anyone know of it?

The Dave 11-02-2007 12:12 AM

Complicated Country? Country was not made to be complicated, it was made to speak to the people, the music merely helps in setting the mood.

Like Cardboard said, Bluegrass can get fairly technical, it's more about instrumentation.

QFT. I agree totally.

I know many people who straight up dislike the new country of today, and they love the older stuff. Can't say I blame them.

Thats not always the case. My family (dad, mom, uncles) all listen to country, jazz, and classical. I do not like any of those genres.

Necromancer 11-02-2007 06:43 PM

Musically, alot of the old classic country is simple (most). But the more contemporary country like, Diamond Rio, Restless hearts, Rascal Flatts, etc. are very far from simple to play. Dynamics, instruments, vocals, etc. Are technicaly challenging, to be very close to perfect is required to be considerd a good cover country band, etc. And it is getting harder & harder to find a good country group, let alone musicians with the talent & ability to play such levels of country these days. Everyone wants to learn a few power chords, read tabs, & be rock stars. (But, It should be, each to his own). There are so many that have the misconception all country is simplisity. I perform music in Rock, etc. from the 50s to the present. Country can prove to become one of the hardest of all to learn & perfect as a good cover band. But what style & era is in One's soul & heart, Is what matters above all. I enjoy the gift of liking alot, Of everything...Peace to All, VB.

This was all I was asking for. He answered perfectly after a few people told me that it does not need to be complicated. Diamond Rio was great I thought. There was much more music. It wasn't dedicated to the singing but rather to every piece of the music as a whole. Restless Heart sounded more like a pop band than a country. Why didn't someone just mention something like that before all the blabbering.

Necromancer 11-03-2007 12:24 AM

Thank You Sir (MJ). This is the best of the best, Concerning, good music forum's I have visited so far. Alot of intelligent, as well as good people, here at MB. Rock On!

all the blabbering came from you trying to be a musical snob by calling other genres that you don't fully know about...simply and not considered music.
