Shearwater

From Last.FM

Quote:

Shearwater was formed by two bandmembers of Austin, TX's Okkervil River. Okkervil's singer and guitarist, Will Sheff, and back-up vocalist and accordian/keyboard player, Jonathan Meiburg formed Shearwater so they could write softer, more folk-influenced music. Band members include Jonathan Meiburg, Will Sheff, Thor Harris, Howard Draper, and Kim Burke.
To date, Shearwater has released four full length albums, The Dissolving Room, Everybody Makes Mistakes, Winged Life, and Palo Santo as well as an EP entitled Thieves and a split album with Okkervil River entitled Sham Wedding/Hoax Funeral.

Beginning at some point in 2005, Will Sheff lessened his role in the band. Jonathan Meiburg wrote the entirety of Palo Santo.
I just found this by going through the recommendations and was delightfully surprised by it. It's more piano oriented music, really light and soft. I'd say this is one of those bands that any Indie or Folk fan would enjoy. if you like Okkervil River, I'd say this is closest to Black Sheep Boy.

If anyone is able to find some albums and up them, then I would love said person.

This band is fairly meh, even their best album is basically average. I was surprise Will Sheff could release something so just decent. They have a few good songs though.

Would you mind upping an album for me? I've only heard the two songs on last.fm.

Thanks for that buddy, I'll get it later tonight.

Why does the description say "Two Gallants - 2006 - What the Toll Tells" ??

sleepy jack 09-26-2007 11:36 PM

Because I posted the wrong link oops.

Winged Life

Palo Santo

Palo Santo is the better of the two releases.

The Dave 09-26-2007 11:43 PM

Lol, k, I'll check out Palo Santo then.

The Dave 09-28-2007 09:09 AM

Yeah, this stuff isn't that great at all, really horrible considering it's Sheff.

I was listening to the first song off Rook and almost crapped my pants when it got super loud.

adidasss 06-23-2008 11:31 AM

Lol,agreed. I just gave Rook a quick listen and it failed to grab me in any way.

Sigh. Why do you have to do this. I know I'm not going to fookin' like it now so I have no motivation to listen. And there it was, patiently waiting on me harddrive.

adidasss 06-23-2008 02:16 PM

 I so totally know what you mean, I'm way less likely to like something if someone with a similar taste dumps on in prior to listening to it. It does show some potential, I like the guy's voice and there's all kinds of country-folky-indie-rock goings-on...maybe it's just not what I'm looking for at the mo...:\
