i don't know how you couldn't like The Band. They are just great. They have put out some good quality stuff. I love the Southern sound in Helm's voice. I always seem to listen to them before or after I listen to the Allman Brothers, they mesh well together.

The Weight is my favorite (as is most people's) I just love how you can picture the scene of what he is singing about in your head. Not many bands do that for me but THE BAND definelty does.

Well, seeing as it's still Thanksgiving time, here are a few tracks from The Last Waltz, which was filmed on Thanksgiving 1976.

I still haven't seen the film despite being a Scorsese fan too!

The movie is a bit contrived, but the concert itself is great.

Not a fan of Morrison on the whole, but loved him in this. What a great performance, lol.

As my MB name implies, I am a long-time Band fan. "Music from Big Pink" was one of those albums that I grew up with and that I still listen to regularly. My appreciation for Bob Dylan's music borders on the sychophantic, yet I still feel that some of the renditions of "Basement Tape" songs that later appeared on "Big Pink" were nearly perfected by the Band themselves. "Tears of Rage" is possibly the best example I can muster. Helm's vocals are heartbreaking, and they harken back to the very beginnings of Soul Music. In fact, the Band as a cohesive group seem to summon an old, classic nobility, and I think this is where their music gathers much of its weight, pun intended. They may have been performing throughout the late 60's and early 70's, but their hearts seemed to feel at home in 1865.
