Céu

Anyone else heard of this lass?

She's the latest in a line of South American singer-songwriters like Cibelle and Sabrina Malheiros. I've had her debut EP for a few days now (having chanced across it on my last download spree) and I'm quite impressed with it. She has this very interesting modern slant on bossa nova and samba. According to her lastFM page her influences range from Massive Attack and Fela Kuti to the Roots and Portishead and naturally you can hear little bits of each one of them in her music.

Anyway, enough talk, more videos...

^ That's half of the EP there. If anyone wants the whole thing, you know who to ask.

I have to say that I'm a little unsure about this. Might need a couple of hooks in the music. I will revisit the vids again I think.

Personally I love the song in the first vid, but the second one's not quite on its level. As I say, the EP is impressive, though not anything truly amazing like Cibelle, Sabrina Malheiros or Bebel Gilberto. The album (coming out in the UK this summer, or so the lastFM page says) should be interesting. I'm just excited I've come across a new act that I actually quite like :D

Céu

Haven't been here in a while, but I had to ask: Any of you guys listen to CéU? Her latest CD (Vagarosa) is fantastic. :)

peace,

Misty, veiled brilliance. This stuff really sways.

Welcome back, Nectarist (and heLLOO there, Terrible Lizard). Yes, the instrumentals are subtle, sultry, and eclectic, and Ceu has a warm, slinky voice. I've just been able to hear three of her songs (Congote, Babuia, and Sonambulo) on the Ceu Myspace, so I haven't been able to enjoy the whole album yet. I know that all her/their music is again being greeted with great acclaim, partly because the lyrics (which I haven't found yet translated) have some depth to them.

Just downloaded this today. Nice mix of Sau Paulo Underground, Brasilica and Trip Hop. A little unfocused because of this but the album deserves a few more listens definitely.

I really liked her EP earlier this year (can't remember what it was called), so I'll definitely be giving the album a shot. I'll post back with an opinion on it...

I remember you posting about her E.P and being not particularly enamoured with it but I couldn't find the thread and my mod powers are now distant memories so couldn't merge! The album is pretty good though.

I can't really remember a lot of the EP as it was among the files I lost in transferring my music to an EHD. As I say though, I definitely did like it. Looking forward to listening to it, especially if it's as good as you say it is :)
