Country Music?

Would you consider The ALlman Brothers, Lynyrd Skynryd or Neil Young country music?

Why or why not?

How about Wilco?

Toby Keith?

The Allman Brother Band is a jam band that does differnt stuff Blues-Rock, Country-Rock
Lynyrd Skynyrd is Southern Fried Rock
Neil Young is a singer/song writer, & he's more Folk-Rock, Country-Rock etc. then pure Country.

Toby's country but I don't consider all the Country music as today as being pure Country music. Some of it is a mix like Pop+Country and Rock+Country - not to be confused that with Country Pop and Country Rock which were sub-genres in their own right during the 60's & 70's. Just like Rock'n'Roll means the the type of music that Chuck Berry and Elvis did (that were three-chord song) and then sometimes it can mean all the genres of Rock Music. Country, in a certain way, is also an umbrella term that covers a wide range. Sometimes, I hear people refer to Folk, Bluegrass, & Old Timey music as Country, I'm guessing they don't know the difference of the genres and just through comon usage call everything "Country" that sound like rural music. I prefer to use proper titles like Bluegrass and Old Timey etc. because each has a style and sound that is different from each other and the Country Music that's on CMT or GAC.

When I think country, I wince at the twang, the slide guitar, and the familiar, tired chord progressions that immediately come to mind. If it's something with a bit of new energy behind it or if it veers off from the general country road, like Allman Bros, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Wilco etc, I am hard pressed to classify it as country...

Country is like being jerked out of a wonderful dream into a sad sort of limbo with tumbleweed rolling by and nothing but cowboy hats in sight to eat
