Default Chet Atkins (and friends) Appreciation Thread

So, if you think you know music, I think you should know Chet Atkins!

He dies in 2001, aged 77, and was a famous country musician known for the smoother Nashville style. He worked for the RCA label and signed a lot of famous artists like Waylon Jennings, Jerry Reed and Dolly Parton. He's also played, jammed and recorded with a number of others, f.ex Les Paul, Leo Kottke and Mark Knopfler.

So, let's use this thread to celebrate the old man and post some of our favourite songs, either they're with Chet alone or with band or friends.

Here he is along with Jerry Reed playing Jerry's Breakdown from him and Reed's 1972 album "Me & Chet"!

Another song I like is the slightly odd "Cosmic Square Dance" from his 1985 album "Stay Tuned". The song won a grammy for best Country Instrumental Performance and was recorded with the help of Mark Knopfler and Paul Yandell.

I agree, he was one hell of a guitar player! One of the best in country music I feel.

Saw this awesome concert on tv the other day with Chet and Waylon playing together. It was a really interesting concert because of the history they have with each other. This concert was after Waylon had broke from his Nashville sound and became an outlaw, so the concert was sort of a peace making concert between the two I guess you could say. Or you could look at it in a way that Waylon was kind of rubbing his success in Chet's face. So he and Waylon are jamming it out, Waylon singing many of his pre-outlaw songs and Willie Nelson makes a suprise appearance and Waylon and he go all outlaw songs from there and the crowd goes wild and you can tell it really pisses Chet off terribly. The concert is quite something, i'll have to look for the video.

Brilliant story, Flower Child and a great vid Jedey

I quite like both Chet and Mark Knopfler and what's great then is when they play together on stage.

Of course, they also recorded an album together, Neck & Neck from 1990.
