The Indie/ Pop music of Sweden

In order to prove my co-host on radio wrong, I will be putting together a whole show comprising entirely of music from Sweden. The origin of this is that she claimed "no bands except Abba come from Sweden", a ridiculous claim considering I was just after playing a double-header of Jens Lekman and The Tallest Man On Earth. In order to make up for that live-on-air faux pas, I will be putting together a whole show of Swedish music. Thus far I have the following-
Pretty much any track off the following albums, all pretty great:
The Wild Hunt-The Tallest Man On Earth
First Band On The Moon-The Cardigans
Night Falls Over Kortedala-Jens Lekman

And I also have The Knife's first two albums and Fever Ray-S/T on a hard drive somewhere.

Any further suggestions? This show will be going out at 3pm, so ideally timeslot-appropriate.

i don't know if you still need more suggestions, but you could play Lykke Li, Robyn, Jonathan Johansson, The Radio Dept., jj, Slagsmålsklubben, Familjen, Jenny Wilson and José González.

I don't know if any of them fit the genre and type of music you're looking for, and I haven't listened to all of the artists, but i have friends who've recommended the ones i don't know to me - so i'm sure they're all pretty great.

I am a little late to this thread, but your co-host should at least know Roxette and Robyn.

Sweden's a-ok as far as indie pop goes. I'm guessing it's just a tad late for the show and that, but either I'm going blind in my old age or I really don't see a mention of Club 8 here, so have a video...

On the whole, I thought 2010 was kinda lame for mainstream music and nowhere near as cool as '09 was, but their latest album the People's Record was one of my picks of the litter last year. It's a fun, breezy little pop record. Definitely worth a go if anyone's out for some light-hearted, easygoing stuff.

Sweden houses a lot of indie bands/artists, most of which even I am not aware. First of all I'd like to bang the gong for Dungen, which I also mentioned in a prog thread elsewhere. I think they qualify here as well, and if you can get used to our language I definitely recommend them.

Dungen is the brainchild of Gustav Ejstes, who funnily enough began as a hip-hopper during his teens but then discovered the swedish folk music which is prevalent on especially the debut album "Stadsvandringar", but subsequent albums show a transition to pshychedelia and even jazz-prog. Underneath all the quirky arrangements though, there's often a brilliant pop melody. At least the first two albums are almost entirely recorded by himself while the live shows called for a full band. Over time the band became more and more established and on their latest release "Skit i allt" the full band is performing the songs. Personally I think their earlier albums are far more involving and consistent and I dare say that they occupy the place of being among the greatest stuff ever to have come out of Sweden during the last 10 years.

I'd say that if you like what you hear you should get hold of all their albums, bar maybe their latest which doesn't really hold up to their established standards.

"Stadsvandringar" (City wanderings)
"Ta det lugnt" (Take it easy)
"Tio bitar" (Ten pieces)
"4"

By the way, I don't know if the thread start has run its course by now but in any case I don't really think this belongs in the CF&W forum.
