Traditional Music From The Eastern Seaboard

Speaking with all the authority of someone who`s never been there, the eastern seaboard of North America, from Newfoundland to Louisiana, seems to be alive with all sorts of traditional music styles; Arcadian merges into Americana, Bluegrass gives way to Cajun. At least that how it seemed to me when I made a compilation of music by guys like Kate and Anna McGarrigle, The Duhks, Clifton Chenier, Steve Earle and others.

This is just one example of the kind of lively, robust music that I found:-

So, if you like raw traditional music that isn`t quite as dark as the bands in Loathsome Pete`s excellent Gothic Country thread, you can add some favourites here.

Alternatively, you can PM for the collection that I put together, and then you`ll be able to comment on all my errors of omission, genre and geography !

Sorry to be a nitpicker but Louisiana isn't part of the eastern seaboard. Still, I get what you mean and definitely a cool idea for a thread. :)

^ Thanks ! You`re absolutely right. I`m pretty sure that including Steve Earle is stretching the geography a bit as well !
