I have for you some new version of folk, there exists even name for this genre - folktronic.
Valravn is band from Denmark and Faroe Islands, they combinate traditional folk instruments with electronic music. I enjoy music with non-english lyrics, it's fresh change.
Unique sound and when it comes to live concert, they create evening full of energy. Their live playing was one of the best concerts I have ever seen.
It's folk for open-minded music freaks so I love this album from start to finish.

This album was recently selected by http://www.musicbanter.com/country-f...lbum-club.html , but perhaps the credit for bringing it to our attention, shouldn`t go to Petula alone, because back in April Jackhammer opened a thread about about Valravn too, so he is fully entitled to say, “ See, I told you !”. You can check out his thread here :-

But, anyway, in either thread, it`d be nice to here some opinons about this beautiful album
What do you think of it ?

Starting out with a crystal-clear acoustic guitar that sounds a bit like the start of The Sounds of Silence , the album quickly takes off into realms that S & G never dreamt of. Pulsing electronic effects, primitive drums and I don`t know what instruments create an exciting blend of sound. The second track in, called Kelling, sounds particularly exotic, with the lead vocalist chanting "Staf tu budanza" or something equally inscrutable. It`s records like this that make world music such an exciting genre, so I`m voting Excellent.

To be honest this didn't really do it for me. I found it a little too reminiscent of something Bjork might have put out (maybe Vespertine era) and I tired of her music a few years ago. On it's own it is a good album but after only three tracks I felt like I had listened to the whole album and found myself disappointed that I still had 6 tracks to go.

^ Nice comment !

I`ve never heard of Bjork, so maybe the album sounded fresher to me. If I was reminded of anything, it was with the tracks that had a Celtic influence, Fulgar and Lysabild, which reminded me of the first Afro Celt Sound System album.

Perhaps I'm not being fair. I just re-listened to Vespertine and while there are similarities in vocal style it's hardly a clone. I will try and give Koder pa snor another listen with an open mind.

I think it won't surprise you but for me this album is excelent.
And I know Björk But this isn't Björk. Yes, Anna has very similar voice but it's not her fault.
I can admit they were as a band just nice or good for me. I started to love them after seeing them live. So much energy, so many instruments, clear and powerful voice of Anna... Unforgetable moments.

The production (which I felt was a bit over-the-top) and the vocals (which were very Bjork-ish) ruined the album for me... which is disappointing considering I have been voting for this album for quite some time. However, everything else is fantastic, and they are all very versatile musicians.
