Wow these guys are really good, thanks for getting me on to them. As for some of the other Russian music posted, can't say it's my cup of tea.

Странные Игры or Strannye Igry or "Strange Games" was a ska/newwave band but when compared to Western ska bands, their approach was much more experimental and unconventional. They were the band that introduced ska to Russia and you can definitely hear Russian bands who have that ska element even today. Here's a couple of tracks from their awesome 1985 album.

Here's some awesome hippie rock from the 70s from different parts of Soviet Union with some local folk music influence added for flavour.

Iveria or Иверия from Georgia. This epic 11-minute track features funky fuzzy killer psychedelic rock with a nice "ethnic" touch. It's a kind of collage / sequence of short minisongs without breaks. This is as funky as it can get!

Pesniary or Песняры from Belarus showing some stunning choir harmonies. Just watch the whole video: they will hit the rock gear eventually!

Ok, this is from early 80s but still. Yalla or Ялла from Uzbekistan and a track from their ridiculously versatile 1982 album (no two songs from the same musical genre featured). This song sounds like early 70s Brazilian tropicalia!

Also, here is my one-hour Soundcloud mixtape of freakout Soviet era space disco, space rock & space new wave! Hypnotic synthesizers bleeps, robotic vocoders and electric drum kits are all over the place here. Check it out!

This songs reminds me a little of Da da da by Trio, it reminds me of another song from the 90s too.

That's not Russian.

my bad... I posted it to bump up the thread. side note: Noize MC & Vоплi Viдоплясова did a hip hop cover of the song. Something about the song, Tansi, I don't know if it reminds me of Da Da Da or Pretty Fly for a White Guy is similar to this song - I don't know.

I started a Russian rock thread, this one is beyond redemption me think :)

This thread needs to be seriously bumped, so here are some artists I'd recommend.

AuktYon were already featured, but there have to be some live videos.
Those guys rock so hard.

Here's one with the great Marc Ribot

Vezhlivyj Otkaz play some jazzy, recently even somewhat avant-proggish music, but still very song-oriented.

Let's move on to some dirtier stuff. Grazhdanskaya Oborona might be considered punk. I'm not a big fan of punk, but I enjoy GO's lo-fi sound and Sergei Letov's emotional singing style.

And back to the mainstream, here's Nautilus Pompilius with a nice acoustic version of one of their hits.

Sergej Kurehin was an incredibly talented and versatile musician. As well as a virtuoso pianist, he was a composer (often for films) and organizer of huge musical happenings, featuring dozens of musicians of different backgrounds playing together and mixing music with absurdist theatre. He was an actor as well and made a famous mockumentary parodying conspiracy theories, where he "proved" that Lenin was a mushroom.

Here's a beautiful piece from the movie "Mister Designer" and a solo piano improvisation, mixing classical quotes with more modern forms.
