Default Laura Marling

Anyone else a fan?

If you don't know who she is, she's a contemporary folk musician from Hampshire, England. She's also a former member of British folk-rock band Noah and the Whale.

She's also one of my favorite singers/musicians ever.

My personal favorite song of hers is 'All My Rage'. Here's a video.

And, since I wasn't sure if this would be better suited here or in the Indie & Alternative forum, here's a video of Laura Marling and Mumford & Sons doing a cover of Dolly Parton's 'Jolene'. That should keep it country enough.

Huge, huge fan. Have all her albums. Brilliant songwriter. Brilliant singer. And very original. Saying that she does reminds me in some ways of Joni Mitchell (so maybe not that original). I've enjoyed watching her grow and mature as a musician too, her early stuff was quite simple and bare boned and her latest work is very rich. A bright artist indeed.

Her 2013 album, Once I was An Eagle, is the best thing she's ever done, best thing I've heard in years. Such a fabulous sound, real organic and somehow old, authentically old, and oh so glorious. No filler tracks. Just a series of masterpieces. Genius.

Been revisiting her debut album, Alas I cannot Swim, this week. It's still one of her best.

The Captain And The Hourglass:

Night Terror:

Alas I Cannot Swim:

Failure:

It lives!

Her music is so evocative. Makes you want to run through a forest at night and have a bacchanal. (quite a contrast to a lot of the other modern folk/indie-folk music out there, which often just.. Lacks something.) Captain & The Hourglass and Alpha Shallows are probably my favorite.

I trust that her new album will be interesting; I think she said it was loosely based on a series of intense dreams that she had? I'll have to re-read the article. I watched the video for Soothing; I quite like the video but I'm not sure how I feel about the song yet.

Oh wonderful, I hadn't seen that one yet.

I always thought this one should be longer, it's much too short!
