Transatlantic Sessions

Surprised these haven't had a mention. They're collaborative live performances by various leading folk and country musicians from both sides of the North Atlantic.

It's basically a lovely blend of folk, country and celtic music, sometimes seasoned with a little jazz or blues. The musicians are all top notch, as is the setting.

More info here.

The BBC screen it every winter (the latest series in available now on iPlayer for those with access to it) but I believe each series is available on CD and DVD too. There are some real gems in each series.

Hi, Mr.Charlie ! Thanks for posting these clips, which are all new to me; never heard of the tv prog, never heard of any of the featured artists, but they are all examples of that faultless presentation that the BBC are capable of, so listening to these has been a nice way to start my morning.

I think my favourite of these four is the more upbeat Diamond Ring, but I have also fallen in love with the singer in the first clip, Julie Fowlis. Could you find out if she has a boyfriend ?

Mr. Charlie 11-02-2013 09:37 PM

Hehe. No idea whether Julie has a boyfriend. Sorry.

Many well known artists play in the sessions too: Teddy Thompson, Emmylou Harris, Martha Wainwright, Rufus Wainwright, Roseanne Cash, Joan Osborne, James Taylor, Alison Krauss, Eric bibb, to name a few.

Here are a few more clips. I've gone for a varied collection, rather than my favourites, in the hope more people get switched on to this fine series:
