Van Morrison

id say he fits this category. in my opinion the best thing to come out of ireland since..well ever. he was good with them but really took off with his solo work. favourite songs are moondance, and it stoned me, brown eyed girl and gloria. so, opinions?

What I like about Van Morrison is his music, what I do not like about him is that, like every aging white musician, they try to distance themselves from rock, which bascially brought him fame. Theres some song where he sings that he plays "r&b, soul" and a bunch of other type of music, but goes out of his way to say he doens't sing rock. That just burns me, same with sting, I like what you've created and I think they are both good, but don't try to deny your roots when you want to sell CD's to the adult contemporary crowd.

In addition to what Stu has listed, I love his version of Muddy Waters "Baby please don't go" and I think his Gloria isn't bad, but since theres about 5 gloria's I can't exactly remember.

i think what he's done is attempted a bit of diversity and developement with his music. true he has gone a bit overboars but you cant fault the guy for trying.

Hoorah for activity in the folk forum.

There's a video somewhere of him playing with Travis Meeks, it's really good.
Can't say that I've listened to a whole album of his though he does write very good songs.

I have a couple of albums at home - wishing now I could remember the names of them, there are quite a few I'm waiting to get my hands on, down on the long list of music I should get in the future............

I saw him on Parkinson not so long ago, and was blown away. The man is spectacular!

What to say about him, I'm so glad JayJamJah convinced me to listen to him otherwise I don't think I ever would've. Veedon Fleece is one of my favorite albums ever, Fair Play is beautiful. I love Van so much.
