Is country an English thing or do other languages sing country music?

Is there a Spanish George Jones or a Polish Merle Haggard I don't know about? You have stuff like Kpop and Swedish Metal that is popular. Is country music really that isolated?

I think you are looking for "Folk" music, of which every country has its own variation.

Probably the closest to american country music is Australia's. Incidentally just today (through internet's black hole I guess) I heard this song (which is apparently an Australian country classic):

I think he speaks English at times but it's difficult to tell.

Edit: Nevermind, I just understood your post. No idea, probably what Donald said.

Country isn't just an English thing. It is pretty big in Sweden as well. There are country festivals around here and such. Then you have bands like "First Aid Kit", "Abalone Dots" and singers like Jill Johnson (who bears a really striking resemblance to Shania Twain..one of the reasons I think she never made it big in the US).

We also have a form of music called "Dansband" which lis essentally country featuring artists like Lasse Stefanz.

Even if you watch Eurovision, you will see that there are country bands coming out of places like Belgium and such (though pretty much everyone sings in English when competing in that these days). I recently saw this singer, Wictoria, sing this live..she has a heck of a voice and is quite an amazing singer. She competed with this song "Save Me" in Sweden's melodifestivalen a few years back. Came in fourth I think. Reminds me alot of Dolly Parton (I think it is the way she can just belt out tunes and hold back on others).
