Default Elive Costello

Elvis Costello said "Modern Country is Journey in cowboy hats."

Accurate? Off kilter? True? Word of God? Whats your opinion?

I'd say it depends what you're talking about. pop country? sure, the quote applies. but what about lesser known stuff like freakwater, ryan adams (his first record), robert earl keen? i think some of Lyle Lovett's stuff is pretty good too.

its modern, but its not modern country. If thats confusing, let me explain.

Country is a genre of music, its been around for awhile, therefore its going to had spectrums and ends or periods and other fancy names for time and movements in the genre. Therefore modern country is what old country evolved from.

Altcountry is a movement back to folksy country whileat the same time taking moves from other roots music.

In short, Modern Country is called Modern country because of what its being compared with.

Altcountry is modern because it hasn't been around that long.

As far as I am concerned it should not take a 128 track mixing board to make a country album. I think it is appalling
