One of the mpst unpleasant people I've ever met was a bow tie wearing humanities professor. He was one of those guys who never came out while he was young and probably felt like he missed the right moment or something. He had the saddest way of hitting on young guys, the whole "I'm not hitting on you, unless..." thing, which in his defense didn't feel intimidating, at least not to me, maybe because he was never my supervisor or on any academic body my future depended on. The rumor was that each summer he would travel somewhere "in the developing world" where you could easily and cheaply procure sex with underage boys. Have no idea whether it was true but everything about him suggested that would be something he'd do.
