Provided that the mayor of the town asked him to go to that house with his machete, it's a fair analogy of war.
We'd have to assume he either got some convincing arguments for why it would totally be a good idea. Or maybe he didn't much think about it but just wanted to serve the mayor of the town (? - never mind, just go with it) with hopes of gaining some socially elevated status or something like "honor"/"glory"/"respect".
Either way, some responsibility is on him for agreeing to the act, even if he'd perhaps have been put in trouble if he didn't agree.
Just imagine if all potential conscripts worldwide chose the path of civil disobedience (not an original thought, but it puts things into perspective when thinking about how wars are even possible to carry out). Like Henry David Thoreau refused to pay his taxes because they went into fueling a war effort. He willingly went to prison for that. It sucks, but perhaps the only ethically defensible course of action is one that would put one at odds with the government.
