I agree that the counter-sensationalism is idiotic, but that's no reason to embrace the initial wave.

The kids were waiting for their bus and were engaged by the BHI who were using racial and homophobic epithets towards them. Phillips then approached their group. They didn't make contact with him, they didn't insult him, and the "smug" kid whose face Phillips (a 60 year old man) was banging his drum inches away from was more uncomfortable than anything else. The 2 hour livestream corroborates this.

There's a reason there's retractions and lawsuits emerging in the wake of this video evidence. The kids didn't do anything wrong other than act a bit rowdy and yell school slogans, but that's cause they're ****ing high schoolers.
