Allow me to translate for you:

"Glad you found it of some use/fun" - she's happy we found her list of breweries/pubs to be amusing

"....can tell you about the History....some day.." - she's lived and she's lived thoroughly - as a result, she could tell us the histories of all of these breweries at some unspecified time in the future

"latest news Marks and Spencer are closing 11 Shops." - Marks and Spencer is a British retailer that is closing 11 shops (in France where Dianne lives, though she doesn't specify that this is where the closings are occuring - source: https://www.bbc.com/news/business-58582860) - apparently this also the latest news in France or that Dianne has read

"Stores down due to Brexit...." - apparently, the news is reporting that these stores are closing as a result of financial difficulties incurred by Brexit

"Pants I say...." - 'Pants' is british slang for "rubbish" or "nonsense". Whether Dianne is directing this light invective towards the explanation for the closures or rather simply the closures themselves is, so far, unclear

Thank you.

 Excellent job!

Marks and Spencer are a kind of icon of retailing in England, with a store in most high streets. They have a good reputation, and are known variously as Marks, M&S or Marks and Sparks. They've been around for a 100 years or more, which is why closures are a news item.

EDIT: to be pedantic, i think I'd translate "Pants" more like: "That's bad! What a shame! Bad luck". "Rubbish/ nonsense" is more like you don't believe someone. Pants = I accept this information, but I don't like it.

Trollheart 09-16-2021 07:21 PM

I think "pants" is also a sort of in-joke, as Marks and Spencer are also known as being a lingerie store, so it could be that too. Or not.

FYI the way pants is used as a descriptor here and in the UK is literally rubbish. "That show last night was pants."
"I went to a gig and the band were pants."
"Covid is pants."
"My dog is thirsty and pants"
and so on.
Pants = worthless, useless, crap, disappointing and on and on and on.

I'll bet that Ted Nugent will be the first in line for a Woolly Mammoth hunting license. :ar_15s:

@ Soundgarden + Trollheart: yeah, I think on reflection, that you are both right about "pants" and it is my correction was wrong. My apologies to Soundgarden.
My on-line posture as a hip Brit is now officially in shreds :shycouch:
